How it works
Regular DNS server
DNS (Domain Name System) serves as an online address book that stores a digital address for each site. For example, the URL yandex.com
corresponds to 5.255.255.80. When you type the URL of a site, the browser searches for its address in the DNS. The faster the DNS server is running, the faster you can open the site.
A regular DNS server does not filter requests, that's why:
- Children might see adult sites and banners.
- You might open a fraudulent website and enter your details there.
- You might open a site that spreads viruses or other malware.
Advantages of Yandex DNS
After you set up Yandex DNS, your requests will be directed to the Yandex DNS server instead of your ISP's DNS server. Yandex has more than 100 DNS servers. Hence, your site loading speed will still remain high.
In addition to searching for relevant IP addresses, Yandex DNS filters data: it shows a stub instead of a dangerous or fraudulent site, and won't show adult content to a child on banners or in search results. The filtering level depends on the mode you choose. All three modes are free.
You can set up Yandex DNS on phones and tablets connected to Wi-Fi, as well as on routers and computers.
